About the Team:
The Medidata Platform unifies the entire trial lifecycle, from design to closeout, in a single AI-driven ecosystem. The Medidata Platform gives every team a single connected foundation. It simplifies work for sites while giving sponsors and CROs greater oversight and predictability, lowering development costs, accelerating enrollment, and improving the patient experience.
Who you are:
You will report to the Senior Director of Software Engineering within the Platform team and collaborate with product, PMO and QA and your teams of engineers. You will build high quality products and tools relied upon by all internal engineering teams and customer-facing functions at Medidata. Our applications are built with a variety of technologies and hosted on AWS. As a Director, you'll be challenged both to develop new features in response to market demand and improve the performance and scalability of our applications to meet the growing user base, as well as define the technical vision for your areas of responsibility. You will also lead the engineering organization through the adoption of AI-augmented workflows and Spec-Driven Development (SDD), ensuring that technical strategies maximize efficiency and innovation.
Responsibilities:
- You will lead multiple engineering teams spread globally
- Keep your team unified, motivated and connected to the our goals
- You will use your previous experience to help improve engineering processes
- Handle ambiguities and guide data-driven, collaborative decision-making
- You will lead your teams to turn the technical vision into reality by collaborating with architects and other teams
- Maintain good awareness of software engineering best practices
- Strategic Priority Balancing: Establish and maintain a rigorous operational framework that balances competing engineering demands. Prioritize 60% of effort on high-value feature delivery, 30% on deliberate architectural modernization and technical debt reduction, and 10% on operational efficiency to ensure long-term scalability

- Experience in driving organizational adoption of AI-augmented workflows, such as Spec-Driven Development (SDD)

- Strategically assess and retire legacy technical debt. Lead the organization in refactoring monolithic systems into modern, cloud-native architectures that accelerate development velocity while maintaining strict security and compliance standards

- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, design, customer support, etc.)
- Ability to influence technical direction without direct authority
Qualifications:
- Typically requires 10+ years of related technical experience with a Bachelor's degree; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in team leadership
As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location. Pay ranges for candidates in locations other than New York City, may differ based on the local market data in that region.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the NYC Metro Area is $184,500-246,000
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the California Bay Area is $194,250-259,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the Boston Metro Area is $181,500-242,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in Texas or Ohio is $162,000-216,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in all other locations within the United States is $165,000-220,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
