About the Team:
The Director of Strategy will play a critical role in shaping the future of our multi-product platform. This role will be responsible for translating corporate growth strategies into 1 to 3+ year strategic roadmaps for a portfolio of products, collaborating closely with technical teams to drive alignment and success. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in product strategy within the technology and/or life sciences space, a sharp understanding of market and customer dynamics, and a strong ability to align cross-functional teams around a shared vision.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning & Vision:
- For a portfolio of products within scope, define strategic priorities over the next 1-3 years based on unmet customer needs, market and competitive dynamics and 3DS / Medidata vision
- Co-own the strategy of a portfolio of products with the Product Leads
- Assess build/buy/partner approach to compete effectively and accelerate strategic priorities as required
- Lead primary and secondary market research, including interpretation of output and final recommendations
- Translate Strategy into Executable Roadmap
- Translate strategic priorities into an integrated 12+ month to 3 year roadmap for a suite of products, ensuring cross-product coherence and scalability
- Guide Product, Delivery and Sales teams in testing and validating true unmet need and market fit of major roadmap building blocks prior to investing in GA development. Lead customer conversations, proposals and early adopter engagements
- Collaborate with technical teams, including but not limited to Product Leads, Platform, Data Science, Data Operations and Engineering teams, to assess technical viability, gaps and resulting timing of building blocks to achieve strategic priorities, as well as guide reprioritization within roadmaps as necessary to achieve goals
- Highlight risks, trade-offs, and identify accelerators needed to achieve goals
- Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Clinical, and Customer Success teams to ensure successful roadmap execution.
- Liaise with Offering Management, Global Marketing and Product Marketing to roll-out aligned GTM strategy for new offerings, product launches and features
- Facilitate alignment across departments, fostering transparency and shared accountability for strategic goals.
- Market Pulse and Thought Leadership:
- Maintain strong market awareness by monitoring industry trends, competitive landscape and attending industry conferences
- Lead strategic customer conversations on new innovation areas to validate longer term roadmap, and generate feedback
- Collaborate with customer success and sales teams to gather and understand customer feedback and recommend strategic pivots as needed
- Showcase thought leadership and represent the company at key industry and customer events
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of work experience or equivalent in management consulting, healthcare consulting, investment banking, or strategy / product management in high growth tech.
- Exposure to Life Sciences industry - including clinical trial ecosystem, regulatory environment, and healthcare tech landscape - or B2B software strongly preferred. MBA or advanced degree in a related field is a plus.
- Proven track record of leading strategic planning and roadmap development.
- Strong analytical, primary and secondary market research, business model, and financial modeling skills.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on a number of factors including function, level, candidate expertise and experience, and geographic location.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the NYC Metro Area is $157,500 to $210,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the California Bay Area is $166,500 to $222,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in the Boston Metro Area is $155,250 to $207,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in Texas or Ohio is $138,750 to $185,000.
The salary range for positions that will be physically based in all other locations within the United States is $141,000 to $188,000.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses.
