About the Team:
This government affairs role is reporting directly to VP, North Asia Sales. You are responsible for managing the company’s relationship with government officials and stakeholders to navigate the complex regulatory environment. This role operates within a cross-functional ecosystem, working closely with internal teams such as sales, legal, marketing and compliance to ensure a unified and aligned approach to government engagement. You focus on strengthening long-term relationships, maximizing business opportunities, and promoting the company’s brand through internal and external communication campaigns.
Responsibilities:
Government & Stakeholder Relations
• Build Strategic Relationships: Develop and maintain long-term relationships with central and local government officials, ministries, industry associations, and trade bodies to support the company's strategic goals.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Engage relevant government agencies and industry organizations at various levels to advocate for policies and regulations that favor business opportunities.
• Internal Collaboration: Act as a bridge between the company and external stakeholders to support marketing and communication functions as needed.
Policy Monitoring & Strategy
• Regulatory Analysis: Track, monitor, and analyze emerging government policies, laws, and regulations that may impact the business. Understand policy changes related to the company's strategy and operations.
• Advocacy: Develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence government decisions and effectively communicate the company's positions.
• Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities arising from the political and economic landscape.
Operations & Compliance
• Reporting: Compile regular government affairs update reports and transfer the latest information to internal.
• Compliance: Ensure the company's operations are in full compliance with all local laws and regulations.
• Execution: Plan and execute government affairs and communication activities, ensuring alignment with headquarters and business strategies.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Pharmaceutical,Business, Public Administration, Economics, Communications, or an industry-related major is required,.
- A minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in government affairs, public policy, or public relations is necessary.
- Experience engaging with Chinese government agencies is a significant plus.
- Fluency in both oral and written Chinese (Mandarin) and English is essential for success.
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex political and economic systems, think strategically, and develop effective plans.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills are required to navigate relationships with diverse stakeholders and bridge cultural differences.
- Must be a quick, self-motivated learner who can identify critical issues with ease and work effectively under pressure.
- Proven ability to multi-task and manage projects, with a willingness to travel and work overtime as required.
Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work.
