About the Role:
The Staff Revenue Accountant is a key contributor to our finance team, ensuring the integrity of our revenue data in a fast-paced SaaS environment. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented professional who is eager to master the complexities of ASC 606/IFRS 15 and play a hands-on role in the month-end close process. Reporting to the Revenue Recognition Accounting Manager, you will act as a bridge between Sales operations and Financial reporting, ensuring every contract is accounted for with precision.
This is a "journey-level" role designed for someone who wants to build a career in technical SaaS accounting. You won't just be pushing buttons; you’ll be learning the mechanics of how a global software company scales, with a clear path toward a Senior Accountant role as you master our processes.
Responsibilities:
Execute day-to-day revenue functions, including the review of sales orders and customer contracts to ensure alignment with our revenue recognition policy and ASC 606/IFRS 15 standards.
Own the execution of month-end close activities, including the preparation of revenue-related journal entries.
Perform detailed reconciliations of revenue-related balance sheet accounts and investigate any discrepancies.
Manage and analyze large datasets from Salesforce and Workday to identify trends, ensure data integrity, and support management reporting.
Assist in the year-end audit process by preparing high-quality workpapers and supporting schedules for external auditors.
Identify opportunities to automate manual workflows within the revenue cycle and assist in the implementation of new accounting tools or system enhancements.
Assist in documenting the accounting treatment for new product offerings and pricing strategies under the guidance of the Revenue Manager.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
1–2 years of experience in public accounting (audit) or a corporate accounting role. Experience in a SaaS or high-growth tech environment is a significant plus.
Foundational understanding of U.S. GAAP or IFRS and a strong desire to become an expert in ASC 606/IFRS 15.
Proficiency in Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs/XLOOKUPs are a must). Familiarity with Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, or specialized revenue automation tools is preferred.
Comfortable working with large volumes of data and possess the "detective" skills needed to spot inconsistencies.
Ability to clearly explain accounting requirements to non-financial team members (like Sales or Account Management).
CPA or active CPA candidate is preferred.
The salary range posted below refers only to positions that will be physically based in New York City / New Jersey. As with all roles, Medidata sets ranges based on several factors including function, level, candidate expertise, and geographic location. Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards that Medidata provides to compensate and recognize employees for their work. Most sales positions are eligible for a commission on the terms of applicable plan documents, and many of Medidata's non-sales positions are eligible for annual bonuses. Medidata believes that benefits should connect you to the support you need when it matters most and provides benefits, including medical, dental, life and disability insurance; 401(k) matching; unlimited paid time off; and 10 paid holidays per year.
