Medidata co-CEO Sastry Chilukuri Recognized as One of the 100 Most Inspiring People in Life Sciences

Chilukuri named to PharmaVOICE Magazine’s Top 100 in 2022

September 13, 2022 – Sastry Chilukuri, co-CEO of Medidata, a Dassault Systèmes company, has been named one of the 100 most inspiring people in the life sciences industry for 2022 by PharmaVOICE magazine. Since taking over as co-CEO as one of the world’s leading clinical trials solutions providers, Chilukuri has been helping to develop award-winning platforms to streamline business processes, embed AI in key offerings, and engage patients, investigators and researchers every day.

“Early in my career I realized how the tech we were developing had an impact on people’s lives. I always thought of myself as a software engineer, until one day when I took an algorithm I developed to a nearby hospital to test it out,” Chilukuri said. “The technician was struggling to use it to detect blood flow into a kidney. The patient looked at the screen and said, ‘I hope blood is flowing into my kidney. My daughter donated it.’ This is the inspiration that drives me as co-CEO of Medidata and our leadership team has worked to ensure that patient centricity is central to our solutions.”

Chilukuri is the founder and president of Medidata Acorn AI, the company’s industry-leading data science business, where he has helped propel innovation in life sciences by offering unparalleled clinical trial data, advanced analytics and industry expertise.

Under his leadership, Acorn AI has successfully leveraged Medidata’s platform of more than 28,000 clinical trials and more than 8.5 million patients to create the industry’s largest, complete and unique repository of historical patient-level clinical trial data. This is helping to accelerate clinical trials in unique ways, including Medidata’s Synthetic Control Arm, formed by carefully selecting patients from historical clinical trials to match the demographic and disease characteristics of the patients in a trial.

Before joining Medidata, Chilukuri was a partner at McKinsey & Company, where he worked for 12 years advising bio-pharma, medical device, technology, private equity and public sector clients around the world. Prior to that, he worked for GE Healthcare in software engineering, product development and operations. Chilukuri holds a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University; a Master of Science from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, India.

“It is always an honor to showcase these inspiring individuals, whose leadership over the past 18 months has been more important than ever to make sure their teams, the patients they serve, and their organizations continue to excel at the highest levels possible,” said Taren Grom, PharmaVoice Editor in Chief Emeritus.

PharmaVoice developed the only awards program in the industry to recognize individuals of all ages representing all sectors of the life-sciences industry — from academia to nonprofit organizations to big pharma to emerging biotech companies to technology companies to commercial organizations that provide molecule-to-market services in support of moving the needle to benefit patients around the world. The PharmaVoice 100 continues to contain a diverse mix of people across a range of disciplines — from the clinic to the C-suite — who are making meaningful contributions in their fields of influence.
