Medidata Works to Increase Patient Diversity and Access as it Honors Study Volunteers on Clinical Trials Day

Medidata to Present at First SCRS Diversity Site Solutions Summit and SCRS Global Oncology Summit

May 20, 2022— Medidata, a Dassault Systèmes company, is honoring study participants on Clinical Trials Day by continuing to focus on increasing diversity and patient access. This includes discussion panels at the first Society for Clinical Research Sites (SCRS) Diversity and Global Oncology Site Solutions Summits.

Medidata’s SCRS Diversity Summit panel titled “The Power of Patient Perspectives,” will include Jackie Kent, EVP, chief customer officer, Sheila Johnson and Justus Harris of the Medidata Patient Insights Board, and Medidata vice president of Patient Engagement, Alicia Staley. The panel will focus on tackling diversity in clinical trials from all angles, including discussions on today’s multi-diverse patients, and how community partnerships, education, technology and data all play a role in broadening access.

“It’s perfect that the first SCRS Diversity Summit occurs on Clinical Trials Day,” Kent said. “As a leader in clinical trials for more than 20 years, Medidata has supported more than 8 million participants in studies conducted in more than 140 countries. By making it easier to join trials remotely and infusing patient centricity into trial design, we are providing solutions to ensure our customers and partners can build clinical trials that reflect global diversity.”

Medidata will also lead a discussion at the SCRS Global Oncology Site Solutions Summit held in conjunction with the Diversity Summit. The presentation titled, “The Impact of Decentralized Options in Oncology Studies,” will focus on decentralized trials and technology that improves patient access and features Staley, along with Michael Tucker, managing partner, Patient Cloud.

The Medidata Patient Insights team has run over 30 design studios to provide feedback and insights into Medidata's products and is expanding to allow sponsors, CROs, and sites to leverage its patient design studios to improve the patient experience  in clinical trials. Patient Centricity by Design is Medidata’s proprietary methodology by which the patient perspective is incorporated into the software development life cycle, furthering goals of increasing diversity, reducing patient burdens, expediting clinical trial delivery timelines, and bringing therapies to market faster.

“Diversity in clinical research is a must, and to achieve this goal the patient perspective must be front and center,” Kent said. “We need to start with the design of our clinical trials to reduce patient burden and follow through with the entire execution of the trial. By listening to patients and leveraging data and technology, we can increase representation in clinical trials.”
