Leading Japanese CRO CMIC Partners with Medidata Solutions Through ASPire to Win Program

Clinical Trial Technology Company Broadens Asia-Pac Presence through Partnership with Tokyo-Based CMIC

NEW YORK, N.Y. and TOKYO, JAPAN – November 6, 2008 – Medidata Solutions, a leading provider of clinical trial solutions, today announced that one of the largest contract research organizations (CROs) in Japan, CMIC, has joined Medidata’s ASPire to Win® partnership program. CMIC will incorporate Medidata Rave®, the industry-leading platform for electronic data capture, management and reporting, into its existing offerings to manage electronic clinical trial data for biopharmaceutical and medical device companies around the world. Within the program, CMIC has already attained the Rave Accredited level, which positions it to build and configure its customers’ Medidata Rave studies and provide a portfolio of other Rave-related services, including end user training, administration and site monitoring services.

Since 1992, CMIC has grown to become one of the largest CROs in Japan, with several locations throughout Asia and South America. CMIC offers services in several key areas of the clinical trial process, including monitoring and managing data, coordinating clinical research, consulting on pharmaceutical affairs and conducting pre-clinical work. With CMIC’s vision of driving the development of evidence-based medicine, the CRO has built a firm trust between patients and healthcare providers, and supports the use of cutting-edge clinical technologies like Medidata Rave in the fast-growing Asian clinical trials market.

Medidata’s ASPire to Win program is a non-exclusive enablement and accreditation program that supports selected CROs and other organizations, positioning them to create new services revenue around the implementation of Medidata Rave. With this partnership, CMIC can now offer its customers the most efficient, high-quality electronic data capture (EDC) and clinical data management (CDM) solution, along with its own clinical expertise. CMIC is now pursuing the Rave Accredited Plus level, which will position it to offer the full suite of Rave services — including custom reporting and outputs, integrations and migrations — to be a sponsor’s one-stop shop for Rave expertise.

“This strategic partnership with Medidata came as a result of the growing demand for Medidata Rave among our customers in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region,” said Mr. Makoto Sato, Corporate Officer at CMIC. “We are confident that its ease of use and multi-language functionality will meet our customers’ needs for EDC at all phases of clinical trials and help them to successfully bring new medical solutions to market. Also, one of the reasons for selecting Rave is that it furthers the goal of achieving completely electronic clinical trials.”

“CMIC’s decision to join our growing ASPire to Win program is further evidence that sponsors in the Japanese market are continuing to rely on Rave to improve clinical trial processes,” said Graham Bunn, Vice President for Global CRO Partnerships at Medidata Solutions. “We are thrilled to be working with CMIC and expect the company to play a key role in supporting our continued expansion in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Medidata’s ASPire to Win program includes four accreditation levels: Rave Aware, Rave Ready, Rave Accredited and Rave Accredited Plus. Since its inception in 2005, the ASPire to Win program has grown to include 15 partners, ranging from smaller clinical consultancies to large, global CROs.
