Hackathon at Medidata NEXT London 2019 to empower teams to develop technical capabilities that combine real business challenges with design-led methodology

Medidata NEXT Hackathon in London to give participants 12 hours to create a product that might be used in real-world clinical trials in the future

LONDON, May 03, 2019: Registration is open for the 2019 Medidata NEXT Hackathon, an opportunity for teams to create innovative applications for clinical trials and the Life Sciences industry. The hackathon will coincide with the Medidata NEXT 2019 London conference on the 22nd and 23rd May 2019, with the winner announced on the second day of the conference.

With this year’s theme due to be announced at the event, previous hackathon teams have created a range of applications and capabilities, including a mobile device data collection tool which encouraged dialogue with mental health patients.

Ross Rothmeier, VP Technology Solutions & Innovation Labs at Medidata, commented: “The Medidata hackathon is a fantastic opportunity for teams to come together to create a product that might be used in real-world clinical trials in the future. Although a winning team is crowned on the second day of Medidata NEXT London, the real goal of the hackathon is to make people more aware of what's possible, enabling them to think beyond the boundaries of the applications or approaches they may have taken traditionally.”

Over 200 people have already participated in Medidata’s hackathons globally in the last three years, with previous teams including Cancer Research UK, Bayer, and Accenture. Hackathon teams, which often include a mix of software developers and subject matter experts, will work alongside a team of seasoned experts for around 12 hours to turn a use case into a concise set of requirements.

The hackathon will begin with an overview of how to use design thinking to bring an idea to life and a technical view of the Medidata Rave platform through sample applications. Medidata experts will be on hand throughout the event to provide assistance throughout the hackathon, and participants will receive a range of prizes and giveaways during the event.

Medidata NEXT London will bring together Life Sciences, Healthcare and Pharma thought leaders and professionals from Europe and beyond for a free two-day conference. Themed ‘A New Technology Era for Life Sciences in Europe’, day one of Medidata NEXT London will feature the 2019 Medidata NEXT Hackathon, with the second day offering a number of presentations in the morning followed by an afternoon of breakout sessions.

Medidata NEXT London is a complimentary event taking place across two venues. Day one (22 May) will be hosted at Norton Folgate, Bishopsgate Court, London E1 6DQ, while day two (23 May) will take place at 155 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 3YD.
