Medidata Solutions Advances Interoperability of Clinical
Systems with Medidata Rave Web Services API

New Interface Enables Rapid Integrations and Real-Time Sharing of Clinical Data for
Sponsors and Empowers Technology Providers to Build Clinical Solutions
on Leading EDC/CDMS Platform

NEW YORK, N.Y. – June 23, 2008 – Medidata Solutions, a leading provider of clinical trial solutions, today announced the introduction of a Web Services application programming interface (API) to facilitate rapid integrations of clinical systems with Medidata Rave®, the company’s electronic data capture (EDC), management and reporting solution. The Medidata Rave Web Services API enables technology providers and sponsors to quickly, independently and cost-effectively integrate their existing systems to create a seamless clinical research environment with real-time, inbound and outbound data sharing using Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) data standards.

Biopharmaceutical and medical device organizations today are employing a growing number of software applications to automate and enhance various aspects of their research and development work – from budget and outsource planning to protocol authoring, data capture and management to submissions and safety. Though often deployed in isolation, these systems frequently affect common processes and use overlapping data. Medidata’s API empowers a broad range of companies – including technology providers, contract research organizations (CROs) and academic institutions – to build interfaces that leverage the Rave platform for unified EDC and clinical data management (CDM) with minimal effort. As a result, sponsors can achieve competitive advantages by eliminating redundant tasks, increasing data quality, enhancing critical decision-making and accelerating clinical trials. United BioSource Corporation (UBC), a global pharmaceutical services organization, has teamed with Medidata to streamline the integration of UBC’s interactive voice response (IVR) system with Medidata Rave using the Web Services API. A demonstration of this joint solution will be available in Medidata’s booth (#1220) at the upcoming 44th DIA Annual Meeting, to be held June 22-26, 2008 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
“Our development teams were able to easily integrate our IVR/IWR system with Rave to provide sponsors with real-time data sharing across critical clinical systems," said Michael Borkowski, General Manager of Clinical Technologies at UBC. "This new tool promises to enhance clinical trials by offering faster access to unified trial data.”

The API further enables customers to leverage Medidata Rave’s use of standards, including the CDISC Operational Data Model (ODM) to import and export clinical data. Announced in April 2008, Medidata is the first and only clinical trial technology company to be certified on all eight CDISC ODM use cases for importing and exporting clinical study data. Rave’s web services natively support ODM’s XML-based approach and offer a relatively effortless means to implement standards-based, real-time data interchange – without incurring additional costs. Faster access to trial data from Rave and other clinical systems improves sponsors’ operational efficiency and offers a more comprehensive view of trial progress. Because Rave’s web services require zero configuration, sponsors can immediately experience these benefits within existing Rave studies and trial data.

“We believe that supporting the efforts of technology providers to quickly build and offer repeatable, integrated solutions that leverage the data capture, management and reporting capabilities of Medidata Rave will provide strategic value to our customers,” said Glen de Vries, President of Medidata Solutions. “We’re excited by the ability of this tool to help sponsors more efficiently execute on their interoperable eClinical vision and further protect their clinical research investments.”
