Medidata Solutions Senior Vice President of
Development Named to PharmaVOICE 100
Andrew Newbigging Recognized for Driving
Innovation in Clinical Technology Integration

NEW YORK, N.Y. – August 3, 2011 – Medidata Solutions (NASDAQ: MDSO), a leading global provider of SaaS-based clinical development solutions, today announced that senior vice president of development Andrew Newbigging has been honored by PharmaVOICE magazine as one of the 100 most inspiring people in the life sciences industry.

Over the last five years, Andrew has been a driving force in Medidata’s industry-leading and redefining effort to bring interoperability across clinical development solutions. His global team, made up of 80 software engineers across the UK, US and Japan, has architected Medidata products, including the Medidata Rave® electronic data capture and clinical data management system, to facilitate the seamless flow of data with a range of other critical clinical technologies. As a result, sponsors around the globe benefit from faster access to clinical and operational data, supporting improved decision making and a streamlined end-to-end clinical research process.

Through Andrew’s expertise and innovation, Medidata introduced the industry’s first developer community designed to facilitate clinical system interoperability, Medidata Developer Central, which supports integration efforts using Medidata’s Web Services APIs. Encouraging collaborative innovation in the industry, Developer Central today has members from more than 100 organizations. Andrew also led Medidata to attain a series of CDISC certifications that resulted in Medidata being the first company to be fully CDISC certified for all eight operational data model (ODM) use cases.

“Thanks to Andrew’s expertise and commitment, the Medidata platform is considered to have one of the industry’s most robust integration architectures, allowing for interfaces with the diverse clinical infrastructure within our customers’ and partners’ clinical environments,” said Glen de Vries, president, Medidata Solutions. “We have no doubt that Andrew will continue to inspire others as he applies his passion for software as a service, cloud computing and creating applications that people love to use.”
