ATLANTA (June 18, 2007) – SAS, the leader in business intelligence, and Medidata Solutions, a global provider of electronic clinical data capture,
management and reporting solutions, today announced the integration of Medidata Rave®, the industry-leading system for capturing, managing and reporting clinical research data, with SAS® Drug Development, SAS’ powerful data management, collaborative reporting and analysis solution for pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology firms.

“The life science industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation, a transformation driven by the availability of real-time clinical data,” said Chris Connor, Senior Research Analyst at Health Industry Insights, an IDC company. “When the operational and clinical data management features found in Medidata Rave are combined with the analytics and data integrity features available in SAS Drug Development, the industry has the first example of a next-generation platform capable of supporting the transactional requirements of adaptive trials and ultimately personalized medicine.”

Traditionally, sponsors have collected clinical trial data using paper-based systems. At the end of the study, researchers would bring all the clinical data together in a standalone clinical data management system for reconciliation and cleaning, and then transfer the data into an analysis environment for decision-making.

Through this integration available to customers worldwide, data collected and managed in Medidata Rave will be immediately accessible through SAS Drug Development, along with other data gathered in the research and development process. Sponsors benefit from streamlined access to study data on one uniform, regulatory-compliant data management path. As a result, clinicians will be able to experience improved accuracy and efficiency in data collection, management and regulatory compliance.

“This integration offers customers an opportunity to revolutionize clinical development by speeding data transparency from patient to p-value,” said Jason Burke, Worldwide Director of the SAS Health and Life Sciences Global Practice. “In doing so, SAS and Medidata can further push legacy clinical data management systems (CDMS) toward obsolescence.”

Sponsors are looking to streamline their end-to-end clinical research processes, which have been supported by standalone, independent systems. The maintenance of a large number of integrations, however, has limited their ability to cost-effectively deploy systems that support faster decision-making.

“Medidata Rave and SAS Drug Development represent two halves of the end-to-end decision-making process,” said Glen de Vries, CTO of Medidata Solutions. “Sponsors will benefit from a seamless flow of data in a secure and regulatory-compliant environment.”

Both companies will be exhibiting at the Drug Information Association’s (DIA) 43rd Annual Meeting, June 17–21, 2007 in Atlanta. To learn more about this integration, please visit SAS in booth #215 and Medidata in booth #1327.
